Shortlisted entry for an open ideas competition to reimagine an underutilised site on Portobello promenade, Edinburgh. Developed in collaboration with Felix Wilson.

Somewhere between a colonnade and a row of beach huts,

the new structure opens up to Portobello beach, providing amenity and new uses that complement and enhance the public enjoyment of the site. The proposal functions as a supportive backdrop to the promenade, an open public structure whose detail and use would be developed in collaboration with the local community.

Diagrammatically, the proposal focuses its efforts on clear delineation and organisation, rationalising the site into a legible and useful form. As much as a piece of infrastructure as a building, the proposal is focused on providing maximal enjoyment of its context with a minimal formal and material presence.
