The successful introduction of a new ferry waiting room for Easdale, although a modest brief, provokes a negotiation between themes of native and foreign, visitor and resident. An ambitious, holistic approach is required, one that questions the potential transformation of the entire island through spatial interventions. 

Our proposal involves a series of carefully composed interventions at multiple scales throughout Easdale, comprising small actions and forms that collectively strengthen and complement the existing form of the settlement, while also opening up the island to future visitors.  Developed in collaboration with Darren Park.

The ferry waiting room establishes the new island infrastructure, a statement of intent. The building works with the existing ferry person’s hut to form a new entrance to Easdale, a triangle of paving forming a stone welcome mat for disembarking passengers from the ferry.
